  1. Women – How to Get a Job 1

    How To Give Appropriate Answers To Common Interview Questions And Get Noticed:

    Most interviews are determined before you ever set foot in the room. It’s about your preparation and your enthusiasm. Here are a few great tips to ace that next interview.

    Tip #1 Know Yourself – strengths and weaknesses.

    Get a pen and paper and making two columns, list your strengths and weaknesses. With each strength write a sentence or two on how that strength has been applied to your career and work experiences. Plan how you might be able to talk about these experiences and strengths with your interviewer.

    As you did with your strengths, perform the same task with your weaknesses. Write a brief example of how your weaknesses have shown up in your past work environments and experiences but now write another sentence or two on how you overcome or compensate for your weaknesses. In essence, turn your weaknesses into strengths. Show your prospective employer that while you are aware of your weaknesses, the company will still greatly benefit from your strengths and your adaptability.

    Tip #2 Know Your Story – Share Your Successes

    Often interviews begin with the age old and dreaded question, “Tell me about yourself”. Your answer to this question will set the tone for the rest of the interview so it is important to take time to script a spectacular answer. Begin by talking about past experiences and successes. Summarize your career in a sentence or two.

    Tip #3 Learn About The Company And The Interviewer.

    Arm yourself with as much information about the company as you can. Dig information up on the internet, from friends and associates, from the company’s web site if they have one, and from your recruiter. They are your best source.

    If you can speak intelligently on the company and ask provocative and relevant questions about your position, the company’s past, present and future, you will go a long way to showing your potential employer that you are a thoughtful, intelligent person who has invested a lot into this company and the interview. Proper preparation and an understanding of the company shows decision makers that you are a valuable, insightful member, and someone that they should add to their staff. This also gives you the ability to tailor your questions to the answers that they give you and the questions that they ask.

    Tip #4 Be positive.

    Even if you despise your present or past employer, never show a hint of negativity. People want to hire people they like and a positive attitude will show them you’re the right person for the job.

    Tip #5 Bone up on potential questions and prepare your answers.

    That being said, memorizing your answers will come across as forced. Know what you want to say and be comfortable with your answers.

    Finally, relax. Interviews come and go and if you get the job, fantastic! If you don’t get the job chances are it wasn’t the right opportunity for you. Do the best you can to make a positive impression and then relax.

    4. How to Market Your Business With Videos … and more

    Now, let’s get started with a quick overview of how you can use audio and video on your website.

    You can use multimedia to…

    Demonstrate – Video is a great medium for demonstration. You can demonstrate a product or a service. You can demonstrate how to use your website or how to make a payment. The options are limitless.

    Engage – You can engage your audience by creating videos that they will relate and respond to. Showing your true personality in videos also engages your potential customers and makes them feel like they ‘know’ you. Use audio throughout your website to guide your visitors through to the next step. Both audio and video work well for engaging your audience.

    Sell – You can use videos purely as sales tools. Use them to let your listeners or viewers know the benefits to purchasing your products or services, and to give them a clear call to action.

    Generate Web Traffic – You can place audios or videos throughout the internet to market your business. By creating useful, informative, entertaining or educational media that leave people wanting more, you can draw them back to you in search of the answers they seek.

    Adding audio and video to your business website is worth the effort. They make you stand out from the crowd and show that you’re worth paying attention to. Read on for some practical tips you can employ immediately to start garnering the benefits of multimedia now.

    HOW TO ADD AUDIO TO YOUR WEBSITE

    Adding audio to your website is a great way to provide a personal touch without actually being face-to-face with your audience. Your voice will be working for you, 24-7, to introduce your visitors to all you have to offer. Use audio to introduce your topic, guide users through your site, make offers and invite them to join your list.

    Before we get into some nitty-gritty on how to actually add audio to your site, let’s discuss audio formats and files so you know what you’re dealing with.

    When you record an audio for online consumption it must be saved in a specific format. Your listeners won’t be able to open your audio file if it’s not in the right format.

    What are the most common formats?

    .mp3 – This is the standard audio format to work in because it is most commonly used for storing and downloading audios. We’ll be working in MP3 so you can use software programs to host your audio and you can easily allow your visitors to download your audio files.

    .WAV – A wav file is most often used on Windows software.

    .WMA – Stands for Windows Media Audio, and it is again a Microsoft audio file.

    How do you record audio for your computer?

    You’ve got a great idea for audio but no clue on how to record it. There are a number of ways you can get your audio recordings online quickly and easily. Remember, each audio file needs to be in a specific format (mp3), and we need software to capture and save it in that format. The software you use is up to you. Here are some options:

    Audacity – This is a free audio program that allows you to save your files in mp3 format. This program lets you record your voice live and then go back and edit. You can also use Audacity to mix voice with music, cut or splice audio together, and crop an audio that you want to break into pieces. Audacity is available free online; you simply download it to your computer, boot it up, and record your audio using a good microphone or headset. We recommend a Snowball Microphone from Blue Microphones or a Plantronics headset. Download Audacity for free here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

    Free Conference Call Lines – You can also use free conference call lines to call in and record an audio for your blog. These lines are actually intended for 100 or more people but even if you call in alone you can typically record an audio file and then add it to your website for download as an mp3 (this will depend on the features of the program you decide to use). http://www.freeconferencecalling.com is one we have used.

    Audio Acrobat – While this program is not free, it’s packed with so many features that it’s well worth the monthly payment. If you’re looking for the easiest way to get audio onto your blog, today, then Audio Acrobat is your choice. There is no learning curve or coding knowledge needed with Audio Acrobat. You just call into a special phone number, enter in your code, record and you’re done. Then when you log back into your account you have a large selection of ways to publish your audio. Next you grab the code to place on your site. Then you have a web-player ready to go and a download link if you choose. There are just too many features to cover here so check out the free 30-day trial to find out more: http://www.audioacrobat.com

    Unless you’re using Audio Acrobat, recording the audio is just the first step. After it has been recorded you will then need to add the audio to your blog. Again, the exact software you use to do so is your choice, but if you want people to click a ‘Play’ button on your site to hear audio, then you need a script that creates a ‘player’ for you.

    Here are some options:

    Podpress – This is a free plug-in that you can use with WordPress. Podpress can take an mp3 file you’ve uploaded and put it into a player that visitors can click and listen to online. It can also allow your visitors to download the audio to listen to anywhere they like (on their computer, on their iPod or other mp3 player, on a laptop, etc.) http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/podpress/

    Audio Player – This is a WordPress plugin that acts as a simple mp3 player for your audios. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/audio-player/

    Audio Acrobat – If you’re looking for an easy way to add a web player then check out the Audio Acrobat trial mentioned above.

    Teleseminar/Conference Call Lines – Earlier I mentioned free conference call lines. Depending on the service, you may be able to create a player from your phone recording and add it to your site. Instant Teleseminar (www.instantteleseminar.com) is one such service that allows you to do so.

    If you want to start out simply, you may want to just let your website viewers download the mp3 audio file without having an audio player on your blog. To do this, you’ll need to upload your audio file to your website, get a link to its location, and then share that link with your readers. That way they can download it to play in whatever manner suits them best.

    Yes, adding audio is a bit of a ‘techy’ thing to do. And yes, you can do this!

    If you’re feeling overwhelmed, then I recommend going with the simplest solution and choose an all-in-one program like Audio Acrobat. Over time things that once sounded foreign and confusing will start to sound familiar and even second-nature. Take a deep breath and know adding audio to your blog is another way for you to create a solid connection with your audience and build your brand long term.

    That’s worth the extra effort!

    Please stay tuned to our Women-Owned Business News for Part 2 of this discussion concerning the addition of Video to your website. This will be published on UWamerica.com within the next week.

  3. Make Money Organizing Parties

    Do you love kids and parties? Are you super at organizing and do you have a great eye for detail? Are you enthusiastic and outgoing? If so, then a kids’ party organizing business may be just right for you.

    Party organizing is a growing trend. Birthday parties seem to be getting more and more elaborate and this trend doesnít seem to be slowing down!

    A kids’ party organizer will help plan and create fun and unique parties that may range from a cowboy-themed barnyard party to an elaborate party in a castle with all the works.

    How Do I Get Started?

    Firstly, youíll want to ensure that your personality is suited to this business. Youíll need to be creative as well organized. Having an outgoing personality will also help a great deal.

    The next step, and a crucial one at that, is to decide who your target market will be. Parents willing to hire a party organizing service will likely have disposable income and be quite happy to spend it on their children.

    Youíll also want to be clear on what type of services youíll provide. Some party organizing services will handle everything from finding the right theme, to setting up and organizing the party, to decorating and even catering.

    Offering an all-in-one service is ideal because this is probably what your customers will want ñ someone to plan the whole thing from start to finish without too many complications.

    Write a list of what services youíll offer. As you do your research, youíll notice the list may be endless – from providing an ice cream van to hot air balloons! Of course, you donít have to start at this level and many of these services can be subcontracted out. However, itís important to know exactly what you can and canít offer customers at the start.

    What about the Legalities?

    Youíll want to start by registering your business. You can do this at your local county office and they will let you know of all the requirements you need to meet. Depending on what type of services you provide, this may vary.

    If in doubt, contact your local county office and they should be able to provide you with all the details.

    How Do I Find Customers?

    Advertising locally through banners and perhaps a small ad in the paper is a great starting point. A magnetic sign on your car with your company logo and information is another good option.

    But the main way of finding new clients in this business is through word of mouth. If parents attending the party see and like what youíve done, theyíll ask for your details and before you know it, youíll have a full client list. Word-of-mouth marketing is extremely important in this type of business so youíll want to do your absolute best to provide a great service.

    If you love kids and parties and are highly organized and outgoing, this may be a fantastic business idea to pursue.

  4. More Traffic With Email Marketing

    With all of the hubbub about social networking, email marketing seems to have gotten lost in the frenzy. However, many marketers are finding that email marketing provides substantially more profitable and consistent results. If you’re ready to build your business and improve your email marketing campaign, these simple steps will help.

    #1 Ask for Action

    One of the primary functions of an email marketing campaign or message is to achieve some sort of business goal. Perhaps you want to drive traffic to a sales page or maybe you want to generate awareness.
    The only way to accomplish your goal is to ask your readers to follow through. Ask them to take action. This is accomplished in any number of ways, however the most straightforward way is to include what’s called a “Call to Action.” For example, if you want to build awareness for your business or for your email list you might say, “Please feel free to forward this newsletter to a friend or LIKE us on Facebook.”

    #2 Be Timely and Valuable

    Articles can be evergreen; email messages often perform better if they’re timely. For example, during the New Year’s Holiday, your messages will ideally reference the holiday. The parenting niche might offer an email with the following subject line, “Ten Tips to Be a Better Parent in the New Year.” A crafting niche might discuss, “Five Noteworthy Projects to Tackle in the New Year” or “Get Organized! 11 Ways to Improve Your Crafting Storage in the New Year.” The email messages offer value to the reader and they’re relevant.

    #3 Analyze the Data

    Set up systems to help track your email marketing data. For example, when do you get the highest open rate? Which calls to action generate the most click throughs or conversions? What subject lines generate the most interest? When you track the data you can adapt your email marketing strategy to achieve optimal results. Simple steps like establishing dedicated links for email message click throughs, using analytics, and using an automated email system that tracks open and click through percentages makes the process easier.

    Email marketing is still one of the best ways to build a community and build a business. It’s a direct and often intimate connection with your prospects and your customers. Spend time creating a comprehensive email marketing campaign. Plan your content in advance. Put time into creating goals for your email marketing campaigns and measure the results. You’ll undoubtedly notice a boost in your website traffic and your profits.

  5. Make Money Running Errands

    If you’re looking to start your own business and work from home, consider starting an errand running business. An errand running business offers you the ability to help people, make personal connections with customers, and make a nice income. Here’s what you need to start an errand business.

    Customers

    An errand running business has a number of potential customers. New mothers and mothers of young children are a fantastic audience. Additionally, the elderly or people that are home bound can also benefit from an errand running business. Finally, consider also targeting affluent customers who work twelve-hour days and don’t have time to complete many tasks.

    Services

    As a concierge or the owner of an errand running business, you have many options. You can offer a number of services or you can specialize. Some options include:

    * Dry cleaning
    * Grocery shopping
    * Shopping
    * Post office/shipping
    * Banking
    * Appointment making
    * Buying tickets
    * Walking/caring for pets or taking them to the veterinarian

    You can also specialize in a specific type of task or service like financial errands which would require a high degree of trust. Research your competition to choose what services you offer and how you price them. You can charge by the hour, by the errand or offer package or membership pricing.

    Start-Up Equipment

    The wonderful thing about an errand business is that the start-up costs are extremely low. If you already own a reliable vehicle, your costs may be less than $100. However, you’ll also need a telephone and email address. If your phone has email capability and texting and instant messaging options, that will help your customers stay in touch with you. You’ll also want a computer, a website, and the means to invoice your customers.

    Marketing Your Business

    Initially your marketing campaign will be local. You’ll want a website for customers to reference and you’ll want to be listed on local search engines like Google Places. You will also likely want classified advertisements in your local papers, Craigslist and the yellow pages. Networking and word of mouth are perhaps your biggest sources of clients. Help your clients spread the word and consider offering a referral bonus. Flyer and brochures will help spread the word too.

    An errand running business is a wonderful business if you’re personable and responsible. Additionally, it’ll help if you’re excited to start and grow a business focused on helping people. Research your competition, plan your business, and help meet the needs of your community. Get started today!
